Kia EV9

The Kia EV9 draws power from a massive 99.8 kWh battery pack. It supplies energy to two electric motors for an all-wheel-drive configuration. The combined power and torque output stands at 384 PS and 700 Nm, respectively. It propels the large electric SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in a matter of 5.3 seconds. 

Built on Hyundai’s modular E-GMP platform, the EV9 benefits from fast charging capabilities and long range. The Korean auto giant claims a range of 561 km on a single charge, as per the ARAI MIDC method. Using an ultra-fast 350 kW DC charger and the 800V architecture, the battery goes from 10% to 80% in a matter of 24 minutes.

The electric motor delivers instant torque, which ensures smooth and effortless acceleration despite the SUV’s large size. The long range gives buyers peace of mind over long distances. Also, the driving dynamics are decent and the body roll is well contained. The only issue one might face while driving in congested city roads is the colossal size.

The interior of the Kia EV9 highlights the tech-savvy components, along with premium sustainable materials for the upholstery. The availability of three rows of seating ensures that large families can travel for long journeys with utmost ease and comfort. Despite the three rows, the boot capacity is a decent 333 litres, while the additional 52-litre frunk can hold a small duffel bag too.

The dashboard layout is clean and minimalistic with a Trinity display for infotainment, HVAC controls and driver’s instrument cluster. High-quality materials, soft-touch surfaces and eco-friendly upholstery options elevate the premium feel of the cabin.

Being a premium MPV, seating comfort is a key priority in the EV9. The seats are well-cushioned and supportive, ensuring comfort over long journeys. The second-row passengers enjoy generous legroom and headroom and the third row is usable even for adults.

In terms of technology and convenience, the EV9 offers a host of modern features, including Meridian Hi-Fi audio system with 14 speakers, head-up display, connected car technology, 3-zone automatic climate control and premium audio systems. Even the safety prowess is enhanced with Level 2 ADAS and a slew of passive safety features like 10 airbags.

The Kia EV9 electric SUV is priced at Rs 1.30 Crore, ex-showroom. This is clearly the luxury car territory. At this price point, its biggest rival is the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, which offers higher brand value and a more opulent cabin for a slightly higher price. Unlike the EQS, which is assembled in India, the EV9 comes as a complete import, which leads to a higher duty. This tilts the value-for-money factor towards its competitor.
