City Driving Experience

In city traffic, the engine feels alert and immediate. There is strong low-end torque, meaning that you do not have to push hard to make progress. The DCT shifts rapidly with no hesitation, and the levels of refinement are impressive for a performance-tuned motor.

However, fuel efficiency is modest. Expect to see real-life city figures of under 10 kmpl. The suspension tuning is also on the firmer side, so broken patches of road are also felt more distinctly than in softer luxury SUVs.

Highway Performance

On highways, the MINI Cooper Countryman is properly quick. Acceleration is hard, overtakes need little planning, and the AWD system ensures clean traction under hard throttle situations.

Engaging "Go-Kart" mode sharpens the precision of steering weight and throttle response, and on the other hand, boost mode delivers bursts of enhanced acceleration.  Stability at triple-digit speeds is strong, although under extremely hard braking from very high speeds, some slight squirming can be noticed. In normal usage, confidence remains high.

India gets only one version, the Countryman JCW ALL4, but it is not a stripped-down configuration.

This variant is equipped with the full JCW treatment, which includes the high-output 312 PS engine, ALL4 all-wheel drive, quad exhaust setup and adaptive suspension. The suspension tuning is firmer than the regular Countryman versions in foreign countries, aiming to put more emphasis on cornering stability and sharper handling response.

Visually, this trim adds red brake callipers, aggressive bumper detailing, honeycomb grille inserts and distinctive badging. Inside, you get sports bucket seats, red inserts, JCW-specific detailing, and the 9.4-inch circular OLED display coupled with a Harman Kardon sound system.

In short, the MINI Cooper Countryman price comes with the brand's performance flagship specification; there is no lower trim compromise.

Fuel efficiency is not the main priority of this Countryman car, but here's what you can expect.

Driving modes have a significant impact on the economy. "Green" improves efficiency, and "Go-Kart" is more focused on throttle response and less on mileage.

The MINI Cooper Countryman is a mix of traditional MINI cues and SUV proportions. Round headlamps, a large grille and JCW badging dominate the front. Larger air intakes and red accents are used to emphasise its performance intent.

At 4.4 metres long, the Countryman is not as imposing as some larger German SUVs, but it turns heads with character rather than sheer size. The quad exhaust, C-shaped LED tail lamps and bold "Countryman" lettering at the back give it a distinctive finish. Colour options include Midnight Black, British Racing Green and Legend Grey with dual-tone red elements. Midnight Black with JCW red accents is arguably the best suit for the performance theme.

Talking about interiors, the Countryman car feels sporty and practical. The black cabin with red inserts and JCW set the tone. The highlight is the 9.4-inch circular OLED screen with multiple themes and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The sporty bucket seats offer great side support. Rear seats slide and recline, so that flexibility is provided between legroom and boot space, and the boot capacity of around 450 litres is large enough for a full family weekend trip. Some minor usability drawbacks are the lack of powered seat adjustment and the use of touchscreen-based AC controls. But build quality, toggle switches and tactile feedback are still impressive.

The Countryman car has a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and is fitted with a good combination of passive and active safety features. It has multiple airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX mounts, hill hold assist and front and rear parking sensors. The 360-degree camera system provides clear visuals even in low light.

On the ADAS front, the MINI Cooper Countryman has Level 2 systems including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, high beam assist and rear cross traffic alert. These systems are especially useful on highways and during high traffic, as they add convenience without overwhelming the driver.

The Countryman car sits in a niche between mainstream premium SUVs and lifestyle performance crossovers.

BMW X3

The X3 is definitely engaging to drive, but it is softer riding and more conventional in luxury. However, it does not have as sharp a steering response and aggressive character as the JCW.

Audi Q5

The Q5 is more mature in cabin execution and rear seat comfort. But it does not have the emotional edge and performance urgency that comes with the MINI Cooper Countryman.

BMW X1 / Audi Q3

These are more affordable and comfortable to use on a daily basis. However, neither has the outright 312 PS performance nor the unique design identity that is associated with MINI. 

Countryman Market Positioning

The MINI Countryman price places it in the position of a lifestyle choice rather than a value-driven SUV. It is for a buyer who desires something different, performance-oriented and less common on the Indian roads. 

The Countryman car only makes sense if you place as much importance on driving involvement as practicality.

The MINI Cooper Countryman is suitable for buyers who appreciate the feel and character of driving over traditional luxury softness. With the Countryman car price at ₹64.90 lakh, it is giving a run for its money to more conservative premium SUVs. Those alternatives might provide better ride comfort, features or brand familiarity. Still, they cannot provide quite the same combination of sharp steering, strong mid-range torque and that playful character. 

If you are looking for a comfortable cruiser for relaxed commuting, then there are better options. But if you want an SUV that feels alive on open roads, carries your family without complaint and stands apart in every parking lot, the MINI Cooper Countryman makes quite a strong case.
