Of all the luxury car brands in the industry, if you had to pick one that has made a lot of changes in the past few years, Audi would probably be it. They've brought out lots of new models and different engines, shaking up their line up in India. And when the new BS6 emission rules came in, they took a bunch of old favourites off the market. But now they're back, with a fresh look, new interiors, loads of new gadgets, and only petrol engines. Take the Audi Q7, for example. It's had a makeover, inside and out, and now it's got all the latest features, strong road presence, and a powerful petrol engine to keep the enthusiast in you happy. Yet, amidst all these changes, one question lingers — is it worth buying?
Audi Q7 Pros and Cons
Pros | Cons |
Refined and powerful V6 turbo petrol engine | Cramped third row |
Luxurious and spacious cabin | Poor fuel economy |
Balanced ride and handling | Missing advanced safety features |
Smart and attractive styling | Limited powertrain options |
Audi Q7 Exterior Design
If you recall the original Q7, this latest iteration is sure to evoke a sense of déjà vu with its striking presence and imposing front end. The large front grille with sharper and larger headlamp clusters might spark mixed opinions, but they undeniably contribute to the Q7's commanding stance on the road. A refreshed bumper and larger air dams round off the updated front fascia.
Along the sides, you'll find that the new Q7 hasn't significantly increased in size, maintaining its distinctive wagon-like shape. While there aren't radical stylistic changes, you'll appreciate the new alloy wheels and clean lines that add a touch of sophistication. For those interested, Audi also offers an optional alloy wheel upgrade to jazz up the looks. At the rear, the Q7 features slimmer full LED tail lights, a full-width chrome strip and just like the front, a restyled bumper.
Audi Q7 Interiors
Inside, you'll find a completely redesigned cabin and updated dashboard layout that bears little resemblance to the last-gen model. For starters, the most noticeable change is the introduction of a twin touchscreen setup in the centre, handling everything from infotainment to climate control, while a third screen, with the latest ‘Virtual Cockpit’ setup, replaces the traditional instrument console. The new screen displays digital dials, and features customizable layouts and a full-screen map.
As before, the front and middle-row seats are comfortable and offer ample cushioning. However, the third row is somewhat snug, with limited space. The new low dashboard sill and large glasshouse do help in outward visibility, especially for the driver. Needless to say, the materials used throughout the cabin feel plush and rich.
Audi Q7 Comfort
The Q7 has always excelled in providing in-cabin comfort and a smooth ride, and the latest model stays true to this reputation. Thanks to its air suspension and chunky 255/55 R19 tyres, it effortlessly absorbs bumps and rough patches on our roads. A standout feature is the standard adaptive air suspension, which effectively smooths out undulations. Additionally, you can adjust the ride height to increase ground clearance, making your journey to a rural retreat hassle-free. The Quattro all-wheel drive system ensures excellent grip and stability, especially in adverse weather conditions.
Audi Q7 Performance and Handling
Unlike the last generations, the new Audi Q7 is only offered with a single petrol engine — 3.0L TFSI V6 48V Mild Hybrid. For those wondering, this engine churns out 340 bhp and 500 Nm. With the 8-speed automatic transmission, kickdowns are quick, ensuring swift overtaking manoeuvres. What's remarkable is the inclusion of a 48V mild hybrid system, enhancing efficiency without compromising performance as you cruise on the highways. With a top speed of 250 kmph and a 0-100 kmph time of under 6 seconds, there is enough performance on offer.
To make it more engaging to drive, the Q7 gets as many as seven driving modes — Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Efficiency, Individual, on-road and off-road. These modes not only alter the suspension and powertrain performance but also alter the feel and feedback from the steering. The brakes perform well and will help you control and stop this massive SUV rather quickly, sans any drama. In short, the Q7 is an excellent cruiser and can be a great companion for those long journeys.

Audi Q7 Safety Features
The Audi Q7 offers you all the bells and whistles in terms of safety, as expected from a car of this class. For starters, you get all the basic safety tech and equipment including as many as eight airbags. What is new here is the Lane Departure Warning system with steering assist that might be a handy feature for Indian roads. In addition to this, you also get park assist plus with a 360-degree camera, cruise control, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and more. While advanced features such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), adaptive cruise control, and a head-up display are absent, the Q7 still offers an impressive package in terms of safety.
Audi Q7 Technology and Infotainment
Audi vehicles are known for their rich features and modern technology, and the Q7 is no different. The new Q7 gets features like Matrix LED headlamps, a 19-speaker B&O sound system, 3D parking cameras, panoramic sunroof, adaptive air suspension, four-zone climate control, adjustable ambient lighting, powered front seats, virtual cockpit digital dials, dual touchscreens with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an optional rear seat entertainment package. Other than this, you may also get multiple other additional accessories from Audi’s accessories list.
Is the Audi Q7 for You?
To sum things up, while the Audi Q7 might not be a great option for anyone looking for a loaded SUV with multiple powertrain options, it remains an attractive choice for buyers seeking simplicity, comfort, and sophistication in a luxury SUV. The new design also gives it an edge over many of its rivals and the updates outside and inside give it a new appeal. However, there is scope for additional features and advanced technology, and the absence of a diesel powertrain option may disappoint some prospective buyers. Nonetheless, for those prioritizing comfort and refinement, the Audi Q7 continues to hold its own in the competitive SUV market.
