Sikkim, which has a population of around 6.9 lakh people, and up to 4 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in its 6 cities to help with vehicle registrations, granting of learners and permanent driving licenses, and other RTO services. The RTOs in Sikkim are responsible for ensuring adherence to the regulations specified in the Indian Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 throughout the state.
The process of registering motor vehicles in Sikkim is uncomplicated and involves the following steps:
Step 1: Head to the RTO in your locality along with the vehicle you want to register
Step 2: Fill out all the necessary forms and make sure all your documents are prepared in advance
Step 3: Submit all the forms and documents to an RTO agent to initiate your registration application when you are at the RTO
Step 4: Your documents will then be verified by the RTO agent
Step 5: Once your documents are authenticated, you will need to pay the registration fees and obtain a receipt
Step 6: A thorough inspection of your vehicle will be conducted by an RTO agent in the next step, during which essential details such as make, model, fuel type, and engine specifications will be recorded for upload to the database
Step 7: After the vehicle inspection, the RTO will proceed with processing your application, and upon completion, your registration certificate will be generated and sent to your registered address
