Nagaland RTO vehicle information: Check vehicle details by number plate

The state of Nagaland comprises a population of approximately 41 lakh people, and has set up 12 RTOs in its 90 cities and towns to aid the people with vehicle registrations, allotment of learners and permanent driving licences, and more. The Nagaland RTOs are responsible for ensuring that the rules and regulations mentioned in the Indian Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 are followed throughout the state.

Nagaland Vehicle Registration Process

The vehicle registration process requires a physical inspection by the Inspecting Authority at the zonal office to verify its details, followed by the completion of registration. A motor vehicle registration application must be submitted in Form 20 to the Registering Authority within 7 days from the date of vehicle delivery, excluding any travel time, and should include:

1. A sales certificate in Form 21

2. A roadworthiness certificate in Form 22 from the manufacturer (or Form 22A if provided by the bodybuilder)

3. A valid insurance certificate

4. Proof of address (such as a Ration Card, Electricity Bill, etc.)

5. A design approval copy from the STA if it’s a trailer or semi-trailer

6. Insurance certificate

7. The original sales certificate in Form 21 from the relevant authorities for ex-army vehicles

8. A pollution under control certificate

9. A customs clearance certificate for imported vehicles

10. The appropriate fee as outlined in Rule 81 of the CMV Rules

11. Form 34, which should be signed by the owner, along with an attested copy (by a Gazetted Officer) of the G.I.R. no./PAN no. of the financier if the vehicle is financed through hypothecation
