Assam RTO vehicle information: Check vehicle details by number plate

Assam, an Indian state in the northern eastern part of the country, comprises 35 districts, and has set up more than 30 RTOs to assist its residents with vehicle and driving licence related service, among others. With an estimated population of over 3.5 crore people, the RTOs in Assam enforce the rules and regulations of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, and provide assistance regarding vehicle owner details and vehicle registration details to the citizens.

Assam Vehicle Registration Process

A motor vehicle registration application must be submitted to the District Transport Officer within 7 days of receiving the vehicle, not counting the journey time. The vehicle owner is required to register their vehicle at the District Transport Office that corresponds to their residence or business location where the vehicle is typically kept.

Documents required:

1. The Sale Certificate

2. A valid Insurance Certificate

3. Proof of address

4. Any temporary registration documents

5. A Road Worthiness Certificate from the manufacturer

6. For imported vehicles, a customs clearance certificate

7. A completed form

8. An original Sale Certificate from the relevant authorities for ex-army vehicles
