The ES5 is MG’s all-new electric SUV that sits on SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform, Nebula. It claims to get the thinnest battery pack in an electric car today.
The ES5 resembles the ZS EV at the front but gets sleek headlights. The rear features a connected LED tail lamp with the MG logo at the centre. The MG ES5 measures 4,400mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,600mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,730mm.
The MG ES5 gets a rear-mounted 169PS electric motor capable of producing 250Nm of torque. MG has not yet disclosed the battery capacities, but it says that the three battery options will come with claimed ranges of 425km, 515km, and 525km.
The claimed top speed of the new MG ES5 is 170 kmph. The claimed 0-100 kmph time stands at an impressive 8 seconds.
The upcoming ES5 electric SUV gets a large touchscreen unit at the centre that controls almost everything, from the climate controls to the media settings. There’s a steering wheel that’s flattened on the top and the bottom, along with a digital instrument cluster behind it.
As of date, there are no reports of any plans to launch the upcoming MG ES5 in India. If launched, it could replace the MG ZS EV SUV, just like it is expected to in certain other markets.
