Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology

Yes, that’s the official name of the first electric G-Wagon that is soon going to be launched in the country. First showcased at a day prior to the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024 in a concept form, the upcoming electric G-Wagon sits on a ladder-frame chassis, which has been modified to fit in a battery pack and motors.

The Mercedes G 580 with EQ Technology gets four electric motors, one for each wheel, which produce a combined output of 587PS and 1,164Nm of torque. The quad-motor setup is paired to a 116kWh battery, which gives the SUV a claimed WLTP range of 473 kilometres.

The G 580 is unmistakably a Geländewagen, donning the classic boxy silhouette that is typical to the G-Class. The front grille is surrounded by a thin LED band, and the SUV sits on 18-inch alloy wheels, which come as standard. The spare wheel is replaced by a storage space.

The interior of the electric Mercedes G-Class closely resembles that of the ICE G-Class. Key features of this upcoming electric SUV in India include a twin-screen setup with 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, a 360-degree camera setup, G-Steering, powered seats, ambient lighting, and more.

Off-road specific specifications

The G 580 with EQ Technology is a true G-Wagon nonetheless. It gets an independent front suspension and a rigid axle at the rear, a water wading depth of 850mm, a low range off-road gearing mode and a G-steering function, amidst other functions that make it a capable off-roader.

Electric Mercedes G-Wagon India launch date

The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology will be launched in India on January 9, 2025. Expect it to be priced northwards of Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). Bookings for this upcoming electric car have already commenced.
