The Toyota Vellfire, which already is a very fuel efficient hybrid van, has received a new plug-in-hybrid powertrain, further boosting its environment-friendly intent.
The Vellfire PHEV (plug-in-hybrid-vehicle) carries the same 2.5-litre petrol engine that’s mated to a strong hybrid application. It offers a combined power output of 306PS and an electric-only driving range of 73km on a single charge. It also offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.7kmpl.
Thanks to a large capacity battery pack, the Vellfire PHEV can drive in electric mode only. Vital components like entertainment and air conditioning can be operated on EV power whereas the low positioning of the battery pack also improves vehicle stability.
With the launch of the Vellfire PHEV, Toyota has also improved the refinement levels by returning the engine and also adding more sound-deadening material, which further reduces road and surround noises.
Unlike other PHEV vehicles, the Vellfire PHEV supports fast charging, enabling the van to juice up its battery (80% charge) in 38 minutes. It also offers vehicle to load, home functionality to power small devices and home appliances on EV power.
