SAVWIPL has issued a recall for 14 Skoda cars and 38 Volkswagen cars in India that might be affected by a serious fault during assembly. The cars recalled include Skoda Slavia, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Virtus, and Volkswagen Taigun.
The manufacturer has said that there might be a potential missing weld seam on the track control arm. This is a crucial component as it connects the car’s chassis to its wheels and suspension. Failure of this may result in a sudden loss of vehicle stability and control, making the occupants highly vulnerable to accidents.
There has been no official public statement from either of the manufacturers yet. The information about the recall was published on SIAM’s voluntary recall page on its official website.
It is expected that Skoda and Volkswagen shall personally reach out to owners of the affected cats, carry out an inspection, and fix the issue if an irregularity is found. This would be done at no cost to the owners.
Skoda had earlier recalled over 20,000 units of the Skoda Slavia over a coding error relating to the side airbag control unit. The error could lead to the airbags reversing their logic on impact, leading to a potentially dangerous and even fatal outcome.
SIAM or the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has a specific webpage that lists out any voluntary recalls issued by OEMs that affect any cars sold in India. The same can be accessed at www.siam.in/siam-voluntary-recall.aspx
