Skoda has had plans to rapidly expand its portfolio in India, with India launches of cars like the Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Kodiaq diesel, Skoda Kodiaq RS,Skoda Octavia RS, and Skoda Enyaq EV in the pipeline.
While cars like the Superb and the Octavia, which will also be offered with diesel powertrains, will be imported via the CBU route, the Enyaq is likely to be locally assembled.
Petr Janeba, Brand Director, Skoda India has said that the carmaker is ready to launch the CBU models in India and is awaiting clarity around custom duties, which it believes might be reduced in the near future.
The carmaker is looking forward to a proposed free trade agreement between India and the European Union, as well as one between India and the United States, which are expected to bring down the immensely high custom duty on cars and SUVs brought in as CBUs.
As for the Skoda Enyaq launch in India, the carmaker is awaiting the final advanced fuel efficiency guidelines under the CAFE III norms. It plans to locally assemble the Skoda Enyaq, which will be its first electric car in India.
The carmaker launched the second generation Kodiaq SUV in India yesterday, which is locally assembled via CKD kits, with prices starting from Rs 46.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
