Global NCAP has crash tested the Renault Triber under its Safer Cars For Africa initiative. The Triber that is sold in the South African market is being manufactured by Renault at its Chennai plant in India.
The Renault Triber scored 22.29 points out of 34 in adult occupant protection and 19.99 points out of 49 in child occupant protection. It got a two-star safety rating for both adult occupants protection as well as child occupant protection.
In 2021, GNCAP tested the Indian-spec Renault Triber, under its Safer Cars For India initiative. It scored a 4-star safety rating back then. However, since then, the testing parameters have been made stricter and the protocols have been revised.
The South African-spec Renault Triber gets 4 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a reverse parking camera as safety equipment. It lacks some crucial safety features such as ESP and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.
In India, Renault Triber price starts from Rs 5.9 Lakh and goes up till Rs 8.97 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This 7-Seater MPV rivals Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Rumion, and Maruti Suzuki XL6.
Crash test ratings aren’t the sole or the most accurate indicators that reflect how safe would the occupants be in the event of a crash. The Global NCAP test isn’t a comprehensive crash test. Also, other factors that should be considered in order to determine how safe a car is are driver comfort, driver assistance systems, structural integrity of the vehicle and more.
