The original Renault R4 was a hatchback that the automaker launched back in 1961. It became insanely popular and Renault sold over 80 lakh units of the R4 till production ceased in 1994.
Renault is bringing back the iconic R4 albeit in an electric avatar, named Renault R4 E-Tech. It will be the second Renault classic electric car after its close relative, the Renault R5.
The R4 takes its styling cues from its predecessor. It measures 4,140mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,570mm in height, and a ground clearance of 181mm. It sits on 18-inch wheels and gets a boot space of 420 litres.
The R4 E-Tech will be offered in two powertrain options — a 52kWh battery pack paired to a 150PS motor with a claimed WLTP range of 400 kilometres, and a 40kWh battery pack paired to a 122PS motor with a claimed WLTP range of over 300 kilometres.
The new Renault R4 E-Tech gets features like a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.1-inch digital driver’s display, Google connected services, a 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and a Level-2 ADAS suite, to name a few.
Renault is offering an extensive list of customisation options for the R4 E-Tech, particularly in terms of exterior colours, stripes, stitching threads, centre console theme, and seat upholstery. Whether or not the R4 E-Tech will step into the Indian market remains unanswered at the moment.
