Renault has acquired 100% ownership of the Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL), taking full control of the Chennai manufacturing plant. Previously, Renault and Nissan shared ownership with 49% and 51% stakes, respectively.
Nissan India will not be affected by the change in ownership. Nissan will continue to use the Chennai plant for manufacturing its vehicles like the Magnite and future models, serving both domestic and global markets.
Despite the change in ownership, Renault and Nissan’s product plans remain unchanged. The two companies will continue to collaborate on products like the C-SUVs and electric vehicles.
Renault will introduce the CMF-B platform in 2026, an India-specific platform focused on localisation and modularity. This platform will underpin key models, such as the Renault Duster and Nissan’s C-SUV, and their respective 7-seater D-segment versions.
Renault’s plans also include a Nissan EV, based on the Renault Twingo. Starting in 2026, the Ampere unit of Renault Group will develop this A-segment EV for Nissan, which will be introduced in Europe and India. It will be sold alongside a Renault version of the car.
