That’s the full name of the Electric G-Wagen that has just been launched by the German carmaker for the Indian market. It has been built on the standard G-Wagen platform that has been modified to fit in a battery pack and a set of electric motors.
The Mercedes-EQG gets four independent electric motors — one for each wheel — that produce a combined power output of 587PS and 1,164Nm of torque. The motors are powered by a 116kWh battery pack that gives the SUV a claimed WLTP range of 473km.
The EQG gets the classic boxy silhouette that is typical to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The front grille gets a thin band of LED, and the rear-mounted spare wheel is replaced by a storage box. The SUV sits on 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
The interior layout of the electric G-Class closely resembles that of the ICE SUVs, albeit with a couple of EV-specific touches. Key features of this new electric car in India include physical HVAC controls, premium surround sound system, leather upholstery, and the G-Steering function that’s exclusive to the EQG.
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology price in India has been announced as Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom, India) for the ‘Edition One’ trim, which is available in five colour options.
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology bookings had already commenced last year, and the electric SUV is already sold out till Q3 of this year.
