Maruti Suzuki launched the fourth generation of the Dzire sedan earlier this week, featuring significant changes over the outgoing model. Here are the top 5 changes that we noticed.
The updated Dzire looks totally different from the outside, with redesigned front and rear lamps, a larger and inverted front grille, a healthy dose of chrome, a sleek-looking bootlid spoiler, newly designed alloy wheels, and a shark fin antenna. It resembles the styling elements of a certain German luxury carmaker, and both of us know which one.
There’s a redone interior, too. The infotainment screen has moved on top of the air-con vents, there’s faux wood treatment on the dashboard, analogue instrument dials have been retained and they look sweet, and there’s a digital MID in the centre of the dials.
The Dzire gets a first-in-segment sunroof, LED headlamps and rear lamps, steering-mounted controls, 360-degree cameras, cruise control, wireless smartphone charger, wireless smartphone connectivity, 6 speakers, individual rear reading lamps, and more such features.
The new Maruti Dzire has achieved a 5-star rating in the GNCAP crash test, which is a significant improvement from the previous generation that got two stars. There’s a new platform with better structural rigidity, and plenty of standard safety features including 6 airbags, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, reverse parking sensors, and hill-hold assist.
A 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine has replaced the older four-cylinder unit, which has been tuned to put out 82PS of max power and 112Nm of peak torque. There’s a choice of a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT, and there’s a CNG option too. The new engine promises better fuel efficiency than the older one.
