The Swift Sport is an enthusiast-focused version of the Maruti Suzuki Swift that has been on sale in certain international markets, but it was never introduced in the Indian market.
While the carmaker had given the regular Swift a generational update, it continued to produce the Swift Sport based on the third generation model.
The legacy of the Swift Sport was reportedly coming to an end, with a special edition iteration that was made to be exclusively sold in the Japanese market.
Latest reports suggest that Suzuki is working on developing a new Swift Sport based on the latest fourth generation model of the hatchback, though it is highly unlikely that it will be launched in India, just like all previous generations.
The upcoming model is rumoured to retain its 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol Boosterjet engine that comes with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor. News is that it will also feature a 48-volt mild hybrid setup that could provide an additional power of up to 14PS. The current output numbers of the petrol powertrain stand at 142PS and 230Nm.
Maruti Suzuki is actively working on entering the growing EV market, with its first electric car in India slated for a launch in the next couple of months. The upcoming Maruti e Vitara will be joined by three more electric cars by the year 2030.
