The Jimny is the latest generation of the SUV that we know as the Maruti Gypsy in India. The Jimny comes equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 105PS of maximum power and 134Nm of peak torque. It goes against the likes of the Force Gurkha and Mahindra Thar.
Popularly known as the ‘Jimny death wobble’ amongst owner communities across the country, certain cars have been reported to experience violent vibration of the steering wheel when brakes are applied around the speeds of 80kmph.
Maruti Suzuki has acknowledged the issue and has issued a service bulletin to Jimny owners in India individually, citing that they have accepted the respective components to be faulty and the issue shall be redressed by the company.
MSIL has said, in the service bulletin, that it shall carry out an inspection on Jimny cars in India, and subsequently replace the affected components, i.e., the king pin assembly and/or the front disc brakes, with no cost to the customers.
The said replacement shall only be carried out free of charge if the cars have been run on stock tyres and no modifications have been made in this respect.
The Jimny hasn’t really been selling in good numbers, with just 988 units sold in November 2024, and an average of 1,050 units sold monthly over the last six months.
