Bharat NCAP - What Is It?

Bharat NCAP is India’s own New Car Assessment Program, which aims to enhance safety in cars that are sold in India, and make the consumer more aware. It is similar to the Global NCAP, which was originally based on the Latin NCAP, until 2022.

Grand Vitara Variant Tested

The variant used in the frontal offset impact test and side impact test seems to be the Sigma or Delta, which are the base variants of the Grand Vitara. However, the variant used in the side pole impact test seems to be the Zeta or Alpha, courtesy of the dual-tone alloy wheels, which are only offered in the top variants.

Grand Vitara Expected Safety Rating

It doesn’t look improbable for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara to not score a good 4 or 5 star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test. This will also change perceptions in people’s mind regarding the concerns around the safety standards of Maruti Suzuki cars in India.

Expectation Basis

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza scored 4 stars in the Global NCAP crash test. The Grand Vitara is built on the same platform, has a larger body, and packs in more safety features such as 6 airbags on select variants. It gets ISOFIX child seat mounts, a 360-degree camera and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.
