Maruti Suzuki recently handed over 60 units of the Jimny 4x4 SUV to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, which will help in strengthening frontier operations.
The initial units will be used in patrolling and border guarding in the high-altitude areas of Ladakh and Arunanchal Pradesh.
The treacherous weather conditions with temperature dropping to - 45 degrees, the usage demands a sturdy vehicle that doesn’t struggle while dealing with such conditions and the Jimny fits with that description.
The initial batch of 60 Maruti Jimny SUVs marks the first-ever induction of the Jimny to the Central Armed Police Force (CARF) and we expect more units to be added to the fleet soon.
The handover ceremony was held at ITBP Headquarters in New Delhi, in the presence of Mr. Abdul Ghani Mir (IPS), Additional Director General (HQ), Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and Mr. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, MSIL.
The Gypsy plays an important role in the Indian Army fleet and soon will be up for replacement. As of now, there is no better replacement to the Gypsy than its successor—the Jimny. However, only time will tell if its good enough for the Indian Army.
