The compact SUV segment has been ruled by the Hyundai Creta since its launch in India. It has consistently been topping the sales charts, not just in its segment, but also for all cars in India.
Maruti has beaten the Creta’s sales record for being the fastest compact SUV to reach the 3 lakh sales milestone. It achieved this feat in 31 months, against 37 months that the Creta took.

The Grand Vitara is offered with two broad powertrain options — a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, and a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine with an e-CVT. TheGrand Vitara petrol is also available in an AWD configuration, apart from the option of a factory-fitted CNG kit.
The Grand Vitara is essentially a rebadged version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder that has been jointly developed by the two carmakers. It comes with the same powertrain options as the Grand Vitara.
Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara, and the same is expected to be launched sometime this year. Toyota is also likely to launch a 7-seater Hyryder, and test mules of the same have been spotted testing multiple times.
