The Mahindra Thar has always had a loyal cult following in the country, and this reflects in the sales numbers of the current-gen Mahindra Thar, especially when compared to its arch rival — Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
The Mahindra Thar was tested by Global NCAP back in 2020, as a part of its Safer Cars For India initiative. The Mahindra Thar 3-Door scored an overall safety rating of 4 stars in the crash test.
The Mahindra Thar scored 4 stars in both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection. It scored 12.52 points out of 17 for adult occupant protection and 41.11 points out of 49 for child occupant protection. You can check out the detailed report at the official Global NCAP website.
The Mahindra Thar gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, seat belt reminders, roll-cage, over-speed warnings, passenger airbag deactivation switch, panic breaking indication and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers as standard. It also gets hill-hold and hill-descent control, ESP with roll-over mitigation and ISOFIX child mounts on select variants.
Crash test ratings aren’t the sole or the most accurate indicators that reflect how safe would the occupants be in the event of a crash. The Global NCAP test isn’t a comprehensive crash test. Also, other factors that should be considered in order to determine how safe a car is are driver comfort, driver assistance systems, structural integrity of the vehicle and more.
Mahindra is launching the much-awaited Mahindra Thar 5-Door on the 15th of August, 2024. It will be named Thar ROXX, unlike its anticipated name — Mahindra Thar Armada. The Thar ROXX will rival the Force Gurkha 5-Door and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
