HSRP plates now mandatory in Maharashtra

Following the footsteps of Delhi-NCR, now Maharashtra has made HSRP registration plates mandatory for all cars sold before April 2019.

What’s an HSRP?

High Security Registration Plates are special vehicle license plates that are designed to improve security, prevent fraud, and enhance the integrity of vehicle identification.

How to apply for HSRP?

In order to obtain the HSRP plate, one has to log on to Maharashtra RTO website and book an appointment to the nearest HSRP vendor after filling the necessary details.

What’s the cost of HSRP

The cost of HSRP plates depends on the type of vehicle. The HSRP cost for two-wheeler and tractors; three-wheeler and four-wheeler is Rs 450, Rs 500 and Rs 745.

Vehicles without HSRP will be fined

After March 2025, vehicles without HSRP plates will be fined in Maharashtra as per the Motor Vehicles Act and rules.

New cars already receive HSRP

It is worth noting that only cars registered before April 2019 are required to move to HSRP plates since all vehicles sold after April 2019 already come with HSRP plates.
