Kia India has confirmed the name for its upcoming compact-SUV that will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos. In line with the rumours, the upcoming Kia SUV in India will be called the Kia Syros.
Kia recently released a couple of outline sketches of the Syros. It says that the design takes inspiration from high-end Kia models like the Carnival and EV9. The distinctive b-pillar of the SUV makes it look a bit similar to the Skoda Yeti. Sketches reveal L-shaped rear lights and slim LED DRLs on the front.
We spied a camouflaged test mule of the Syros a few weeks back and could make out some of the features and design elements of this upcoming SUV. The test mule featured a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, leather-wrapped two-spoke steering wheel, rear sensors for ADAS, and a dual-screen setup on the dashboard.
Other expected features include a 360-degree camera setup, ESC, ISOFIX child seat mounts, automatic climate control, electrically-adjustable front ventilated seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, et cetera.
Kia has so far been discreet about the powertrain options for its upcoming SUV. But the test mule that we spied had a diesel engine. We expect the same 1.5-litre diesel engine on the Syros that also does duty on the Seltos and Sonet. A couple of petrol engine options are naturally expected too.
We expect Kia to launch the Syros/Clavis in early 2025. It will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos, so expect it to start from somewhere around Rs 8-9 lakh (ex-showroom).
