It's no secret to anyone that Ford is planning to come back to India and will be launching a number of cars including the Everest SUV. If reports are to be believed, the new Ford Everest could get multiple engine options including the LION 3.0-litre V6 diesel.

LION V6 diesel engine – What is it?

A popular choice among those needing to tow heavy loads, Ford’s 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, commonly referred to as the LION engine, is one of the most powerful diesel engines in Ford’s lineup. This engine powers several Ford vehicles, including the Ranger pickup in Australia and the F-150 in the United States.

What makes this engine special?

In addition to its impressive towing capabilities, this 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine is also known for its smoothness and refinement. For those wondering, this engine delivers a peak power output of 250hp and 600Nm of maximum torque.

Made in South Africa

Furthemore, the LION V6 diesel engine is currently being manufactured in South Africa and features a single, large variable nozzle turbo along with dual overhead camshafts and runs a compression ratio of 16:1.

Made-in-India Everest?

Ford is also likely to assemble the Everest in India and might source the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine from its Sanand plant in Gujarat, where the same engine is produced for export.

When is Ford returning to India?

While Ford recently announced plans to begin export-only production from its plant in Chennai, the company has not officially confirmed any plans for a comeback to the Indian market. However, the brand is evaluating several models for potential introduction in India through the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.

Ford is also evaluating the possibility of locally producing electric cars in India but is yet to officially confirm the same.
