Ford has brought back the Capri nameplate after a 38-year hiatus. But, the new Ford Capri EV has nothing to do with the old fastback. It is, in fact, back as an electric coupe SUV.
The Ford Capri EV has a coupe-like styling and the stance of an SUV. It has 2 more doors than its predecessor and is essentially Ford’s version of the Volkswagen ID.5.
The Ford Capri EV borrows its platform from Volkswagen. The Volkswagen MEB platform also underpins the Volkswagen ID.4, Volkswagen ID.5 and Ford Explorer EV.
The Ford Capri EV interiors are similar to that of the Ford Explorer EV. It features a 14.6-inch infotainment system, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a hands-free tailgate and a hidden storage area behind the touchscreen.
The Ford Capri EV will get two options for the battery-motor combinations. There will be a smaller 282hp motor paired to a 77kWh battery pack, with a WLTP range of 628kms. The more powerful version will feature two motors, bringing the power up to 335hp, along with a 79kWh battery and a WLTP range of 592kms.
While we do not have any official statement from Ford yet, regarding its re-entry to the Indian markets, Ford is likely to re-enter with the new Ford Everest, sometime later in 2024 or early 2025.
