MG Comet EV

The Comet EV is a quirky car, and while it does have its set of shortcomings, it has a certain edge over other commuters that it is just too good to not pay heed to. Here are five things that I observed about and around the MG Comet after driving it for a few days.

Agility and manoeuvrability

Sitting under 3 metres in length and around 1.5 metres in width, the Comet can slip through gaps that you wouldn’t even think about entering with other four-wheelers. Complemented by its short wheelbase and a low turning radius, the car is easy to manoeuvre through traffic and park in tight spots.

Seating space

Though it would not seem so from the outside, the Comet has quite a spacious cabin and can easily accommodate four adults, without the rear seat occupants complaining about being shortchanged on headroom or legroom.

Comfort and ride quality

While they might not complain about space, they would be sure to leave a few snarky comments about seat and ride comfort. Given their structure and inadequate head support, the rear seats aren’t the most comfortable out there. And the small tyres do hamper the ride quality, plus you have to be extra careful even over the smallest of bumps.

Storage spaces

The doors have large cubby holes to keep stuff inside and there are a couple of cup holders, too. But, there are no closed storage spaces inside the cabin, not even a glovebox. This to me is a big miss as you have nowhere to keep your stuff secure when you’re off to shop and your car’s parked in the open.

HVAC adjustability

Driving in mild winters made me realise that the lack of temperature settings can make your experience sore. There are six levels of cooling but when you go from one to the other, the gap is so wide that the car shifts from heating to cooling or vice versa. Also, the placement of the driver side vents is annoying, with the airflow from the left one being hindered by the steering wheel and the right one by a cup or a bottle, if you're using the holder.
