Maruti Suzuki has announced that all its cars will come equipped with six airbags as standard by the end of 2025, following government recommendations to improve road safety.
Models like the Alto K10, Celerio, Wagon-R, Brezza, Grand Vitara, and Eeco have already received the update. Upcoming models to get the upgrade include the S-Presso, Ignis, Ertiga, XL6, Baleno, and Fronx.
The addition of six airbags has led to a rise in prices across several models. For instance, the Celerio has seen price hikes of up to ₹32,500. These updates also include 3-point seatbelts for all passengers.
Cars like the Baleno and Fronx already offer six airbags in higher trims. With the update, lower variants will now also include them, likely resulting in minor price adjustments.
Following the Dzire's 5-star Global NCAP rating, Maruti Suzuki hopes to improve the safety ratings of more models, thanks to the standardisation of six airbags and enhanced seatbelt provisions.
