Tesla has finally revealed its robotaxi, which has been christened the Cybercab. As promised, the autonomous cab comes without a steering wheel or pedals, as it doesn’t require a driver for commutes.
The Tesla Cybercab is unmistakably Tesla in its design. The smooth flowing curves and sharp lines along with connected lighting setup seek inspiration from the Cybertruck. It is worth mentioning that the Cybercab can only seat two passengers, though in style thanks to the scissor doors.
Tesla claims that the Cybercab will offer commuting 10-20 times safer than humer-driven vehicles, while also managing astonishingly low operating costs, thereby making it even cheaper than city bus commutes.
Tesla reveals that the Cybercab should step into production in 2026 and carry a sticker price of under USD 30,000. It remains to be seen when Cybercab tackles the regulatory hurdles and steps into mass production.
It is interesting to note that the Cybercab doesn’t have a charging plug, since it supports inductive charging. Furthermore, Tesla claims that the driving cost of the Cybercab is 20 cents for a mile, which is considerably lower than public or personal transportation.
The Cybercab will take use of cameras and artificial intelligence as a base for autonomous driving technology. It is deemed to be more safe and accurate than other autonomous vehicles that use Lidar technology.
