The upcoming Citroen Basalt EV is set to become Citroen's second electric offering in India, following the eC3 electric hatchback. Recently spied testing in Chennai, the Basalt EV is based on the popular Basalt model and boasts a similar exterior styling as the other products launched under the C-Cubed program.
Likely to be underpinned by an enhanced version of the common modular platform, the new Basalt EV will be one of the most affordable electric SUVs in India.
Expected to launch next year, the Basalt EV will likely come with a 29.2 kWh battery and potentially a larger 44 kWh variant. From what we know so far, Citroen plans to keep it affordable and is likely to position it below the Curve EV in pricing.
Citroen is expected to offer the upcoming Basalt EV as a good-looking and feature-rich electric car in India. Just like the Basalt ICE, the EV will boast features like 16-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, dual screen setup inside the cabin, automatic climate control, wireless charging pad, and more.
Just like the ICE version, the Basalt EV too is expected to get features like six airbags, electronic stability control, a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system in addition to other standard safety features.
As mentioned before, while Citroen is yet to comment on the official launch date of the new Basalt EV, multiple reports suggest that this new EV might make it debut somewhere in 2025.
