The R8 is perhaps the most well known Audi car in the world. It had been discontinued by the German carmaker in 2024, after producing a ton of ‘last editions’. News is that the R8 might be up for a return in the future.
As per a report by Autocar UK, Audi is planning to revive the R8 nameplate for a third-generation model that is expected to be launched in the next couple of years. The new Audi R8 is rumoured to come powered by a hybrid powertrain.
As has been the case with previous generations of the Audi R8 supercar, the upcoming Audi R8 is also reportedly being developed on the Lamborghini Temerario, with key components like the powertrain and platform likely to be shared.
The first generation Audi R8 was based on the Lamborghini Gallardo. The second generation Audi R8 was based on the Lamborghini Huracan. The third generation Audi R8 is speculated to be based on the new Lamborghini Temerario.
The Lamborghini Temerario is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that is mated to a plug-in-hybrid system consisting of three electric motors and a 3.8kWh battery. Combined power figure stands at 933PS and the engine alone produces a peak torque of 730Nm. The Lamborghini Temerario top speed is 343kmph and triple digit speeds appear in 2.7 seconds.
The third generation Audi R8 launch is expected to take place not before the year 2027, so there’s still time for you to save for the supercar.
