The fourth generation Maruti Swift was launched a few months back, and it had quite the legacy to stand up to. How does the new Swift fare? Let’s find out.
Here are three pros of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift…
The Swift is supposed to be a fun to drive hatch’, and the new generation does stand up to it to an acceptable level. While there were apprehensions about the three-cylinder motor earlier, we can confidently say after driving the updated Swift that it still is a likeable car to drive.
Styling is an aspect where Maruti has been brave with the Swift since its inception, and it continues to do so on the latest generation as well. The new Swift looks better in person than what it does in pictures, and that large panel gap that we’ve talked about in our previous stories doesn’t look that bad either.
Maruti has traded in some of the performance on the Swift with a bit more efficiency, making it the most fuel efficient hatchback in India in its class. There’s also the CNG option if you want even more economy.
The Swift has its own set of cons too. Here are three of them…
While the Swift has been made more efficient and comfortable to appeal to families, Maruti should have also offered a more enthusiastic option such as a hybrid or a turbo-petrol powertrain. There is a sizable market for the same, but then, who knows about the Indian market better than Maruti?
While the exterior of the 2024 Maruti Swift stands out of the crowd, the interior doesn’t match up to it. It’s not underwhelming or outdated, but there’s nothing special about it either. The Swift also misses on a couple of must-haves such as TPMS and some good-to-haves like ventilated seats.
Cabin space is not particularly a strong point of the new Swift and this is even more evident in the second row. The Baleno might be a better choice for you if you often have a lot of people or stuff to move around.
