Outline

The Toyota Glanza is essentially a rebadged version of one of the most popular hatchbacks in India — Maruti Suzuki Baleno. There are hardly any differences between the two cars, leave for a few features here and there, and slight exterior tweaks. For the sake of it, here are the top Toyota Glanza pros and cons.

Toyota Glanza pros

After sales experience

A key differentiator between the Baleno and the Glanza doesn’t lie in the products themselves but rather in the after sales experience of both the cars. While the Maruti Suzuki service experience is among one of the better ones in the country, the Toyota service experience is known to be amongst the best, with quicker turnaround times and smooth procedures.

Fuel efficiency

Being a Maruti car at heart, the Glanza returns the best-in-segment fuel efficiency figures. The Toyota Glanza claimed mileage stands at 22.35kmpl for the petrol manual variants, 22.94kmpl for the petrol AMT variants, and 30.61kmpkg for the Toyota Glanza CNG variants.

Practicality

The Glanza also scores pretty well on the practicality chart, with a well packaged cabin that optimises space efficiently, and lots of storage spaces for stuff inside the cabin as well as in the boot. It can accommodate five adults comfortably and works well as a family car.

Toyota Glanza cons

Fewer powertrain options

The Glanza is offered with just one engine option — a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, that too with a manual gearbox and an AMT. There’s no proper automatic on offer, nor is a more powerful turbo-petrol or a diesel engine available. There is, though, the option of a factory-fitted CNG kit with the NA petrol engine.

Perception of safety

The Baleno-Glanza aren’t well known to be ‘safe’ cars and the perception around their safety is quite bad. While there aren’t any official Toyota Glanza safety ratings available, the first-gen Maruti Baleno has often been criticised for its poor safety rating as well as its easily-deformable body panels.

No proper automatic

The Toyota Glanza comes with a 5-speed AMT, just like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which feels a bit out of place in a car positioned as a premium hatchback. Its rivals like the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20, on the other hand, come with DCA and CVT options, respectively.
