Tata Punch is one of the best-selling products for Tata and has comfortably secured a place in the list of top 5 best-selling cars in India month after month, all thanks to its sturdy build quality, SUV-like stance, and affordable pricing. If you’re also planning to soon buy the new Tata Punch in India, here are the top Tata Punch Pros and Cons to help you make a more informed choice.

2024 Tata Punch Pros

Strong Build Quality & Safety

Tata Punch is loved for its safe cabin and strong build quality. It also became the safest micro-SUV post-launch in India after securing a five-star safety rating in GNCAP safety crash tests. May it be the door thud or the quality of the panels, everything assures a long-lasting feel. At this price point, Punch has no competitor that offers a similar safety inside the cabin or a similar build quality.

Practical & Spacious Cabin

Inside, the cabin of the Tata Punch offers a practical yet comfortable space for passengers. The seats are wide and well-cushioned while the storage spaces are ample all over the cabin. The large boot space of 366-litre is larger than the rivals. Hence, it can be used for highway travel easily with a full load inside the car. The large windows ensure an airy feel to the passengers.

Comfortable Ride Quality

Tata cars are known to have a comfortable ride quality, and the Punch is no exception. The TELCO DNA is evident as the suspension nearly absorbs every undulation and potholes on the road. Additionally, the low-speed ride is commendable and can be flagged above the rivals. However, only the sharp bumps or potholes might make you notice some suspension inside the cabin.

Feature-Packed Variants

Punch is offered in four different ‘personas’ which are essentially variants. Under these, one can easily choose between their likes and budget orientation. The availability of features like auto headlights, auto wipers, cruise control, traction control (on AMT versions), etc., make it a feature-rich vehicle. Furthermore, there are optional customization packs that help in further enhancing the appeal of it.

Top Tata Punch Cons

Underpowered Engine

Sold only with a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, the Punch may not feel very powerful to all. The three-cylinder motor powering the Punch has been sourced from the Tiago. While this engine works fine for the lightweight Tiago, it does fell slightly sluggish due to the weight of the Punch. While it may not be as good as a larger petrol or a turbo-charged unit on the highways and or for those hilly sections, it does offer ample grunt for day-to-day driving.

Not-So-Smooth AMT

Tata offers Punch with an AMT gearbox option as well as a manual gearbox. This AMT version, mostly preferred by city buyers, is not very smooth. While the competitors offer very smooth CVTs and torque converters, the AMT on Punch may not perform as good, especially under hard throttle inputs.

Interior Quality & NVH Levels

For the most part, the Punch is a sorted car. However, it is the inconsistency in the quality of materials used inside the cabin that raises concerns. Certain panels like the centre console near the gear lever, are prone to cracks and rattles. Additionally, the NVH levels too could have been better.

Concerning Aftersales Experience

Tata’s aftersales experience has been a hit or miss for most buyers and the experience is no different for those buying the Tata Punch. While the after-sales support is largely dependent on the dealership network, Tata can definitely work on improving the overall experience for the buyers.
