There’s no doubt in stating that Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt are two of the most anticipated launches for the month of August. These two machines will be the set of the first mass-market coupe SUVs to be launched in the country. Both of them will be launched in close proximity to one-another. While we await more details about these cars, let’s discuss the Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt design, expected engine options, features and tentative prices.

Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: Design

A style, which debuted with the BMW X6, is now being brought to the masses by Tata and Citroen with the launch of their respective coupe SUVs. Broadly, the Tata Curvv follows a minimalist design approach, with modern cues all over the exterior. It gets sleek and connected light bars at the front and rear, bent at the ends to give it a menacing character. The shoulder line flows upwards from front to back and the petal-like alloys are surrounded by black wheel arches, and an identical finish is given to the rocker panels and the bumpers. The front fascia of the ICE Tata Curvv also features webbed grilles.

The Citroen Basalt, on the other hand, follows an edgy and hefty design language. It gets split-headlights, which are connected to the twin-chevron logo via a double-slat grille. Citroen isn’t typically known for following what its competitors are doing, in terms of design, case in point being Citroen’s existing lineup in India, featuring quirky design elements. The rear end of the Basalt features well-defined lines, just like the rest of the body, and the tail lights don’t resemble any existing cars, bringing in a fresh design to an otherwise overused style. The alloy design looks sleek and balanced and it gets similar wheel arches to that of the Curvv. The aesthetic element on the c-pillar also looks neat and adds character to the coupe SUV.

Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: Engine Options

The ICE Tata Curvv will be launched in both petrol and diesel configurations. The petrol variants will be offered with an option of a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and a 1.2-litre three-cylinder TGDi, while the diesel variants will be offered with the 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine from the Tata Nexon. The ICE variants will be preceded by the launch of the Tata Curvv EV.

The Citroen Basalt is expected to get a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. This is the same engine which is featured on the Citroen C3 Aircross, with which the Basalt also shares its platform. Actual specifications are yet to be revealed by both the carmakers.
