New Nissan Magnite vs Hyundai Exter — SUV enough?
- 1The Exter gets a sunroof and a dashcam, which the Magnite misses on
- 2The Magnite gets a more powerful turbo-petrol engine on offer
- 3Starting price of both the cars are at par to each other
Nissan has launched an updated version of the Magnite sub-compact SUV in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Magnite sits in a highly competitive segment with popular cars such as the Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Fronx garnering good sales numbers. How does the Magnite compare to the Hyundai Exter? Here’s a Magnite vs Exter comparison to help you answer that question.
Magnite vs Exter powertrain options
Nissan offers a much wider variety of petrol powertrains than what Hyundai does for the Exter. There’s a 1.0-litre NA-petrol engine that can be paired to a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT for the Magnite. The Exter gets a 1.2-litre NA-petrol engine that comes with the option for a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. It does get the option for a factory-fitted CNG kit though, which the Magnite misses on. However, the Magnite redeems itself with the choice of a more-powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, along with both 5-speed manual and CVT transmission options.

Which one to pick?
The Nissan Magnite offers a smooth drive with good handling and a suspension that makes you feel confident inside the city. We would recommend you to go for the turbo-petrol engine though as the naturally-aspirated unit feels quite underpowered. Overall, the Magnite seems to be a better package overall. The Exter, on the other hand, feels more premium inside the cabin, and it even gets a sunroof that the Magnite misses on.
