New Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Swift — Oranges and Kinnows
- 1Based on the same platform and get the same three-pot engine
- 2Dzire gets more features and a sophisticated design
- 3Swift is more focused towards enthusiastic drivers
The recently-launched new Maruti Dzire has been received well by the media. And it will obviously sell in thousands every month. While it has a lot in common with the fourth generation Swift that debuted here a few months ago, the two cars have a stark contrast in their personalities and appeal to varied audiences. How do they compare when put against each other? Here’s a Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Swift specs comparison to sort that out.
New generation Maruti Suzuki cars
Both the Swift and the Dzire have received a generational update with lots of changes inside out. The cars are now underpinned by Suzuki’s new Heartect platform that has performed much better, as revealed by the Dzire crash test conducted by Global NCAP. The styling and powertrain have also been updated in an elaborate manner.
New three cylinder engine
The new generation Swift gets a three-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 82PS of maximum power and 111.7Nm of peak torque, both of which are down from the previous generation. In real life though, the car is still fun to drive and feels enthusiastic (you can check out our review of the same here). This engine has also made its way to the new Dzire in the same state of tune, but the Dzire is supposed to be more comfortable rather than feel enthusiastic keeping in mind the customer that it targets. Both these cars get the choice of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT, as well as a factory-fitted CNG option.
Engine | Maximum power | Peak torque |
1.2-litre Z-series petrol | 81.6PS (petrol) 69.8PS (CNG) | 111.7Nm (petrol) 101.8Nm (CNG) |
Styling and design
The Swift looks playful, owing to its legacy as a sporty hatchback. The fourth generation gets a strong shoulder line that runs throughout the side of the car and meets the wide panel gap between the bonnet and the front bumper. The adequately-sized grille at the front, smoked rear lamps, and dual-tone alloy wheels only help in making its case stronger as an enthu-cutlet.
Unlike the previous generations, the updated Dzire looks nothing like its hatchback counterpart. It looks a lot more upmarket than before, with a lot of elements resembling those of a German luxury brand.

Interior and features
The dashboard layout of these Maruti Suzuki cars is almost identical, but what differentiates one from the other are the colours and materials used. The Dzire looks more spacious and premium on the inside, owing to the lighter upholstery, chrome strips, and faux wood elements. The updated Dzire also one-ups the Swift in terms of features, with a sunroof, 360-degree cameras, rear reading lamps, TPMS, and a boot that can be opened via the key fob.
