Outline

When the largest carmaker of India updates country's best selling sedan, we can’t help but stand up and notice. And all that Maruti Suzuki has done with the new Dzire, it is nothing short of a commendable job in delivering the most complete sub-compact sedan on sale at this point. However, it goes without saying that no product is perfect, and the Dzire isn’t either. In this article, we share the top Maruti Suzuki Dzire pros and cons for you to make an informed decision.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire pros

5-star safety

This has to be the biggest achievement for Maruti Suzuki — achieving a 5 star safety rating from Global NCAP. All these years when Maruti Suzuki cars were tested by Global NCAP and given poor safety ratings, the Japanese carmaker always shrugged off the results. However, as the new Dzire has now received 5 star safety rating from Global NCAP, it should boost the confidence of prospective buyers while also bettering the notion around safety of Maruti cars in India at large.

Upmarket appeal

With the new Dzire, Maruti Suzuki has also boosted the appeal of the sub-compact sedan. We can see the changes in the way it has been designed, engineered, and positioned in the market. It looks fresh and more importantly, distinct from the Swift — its hatchback sibling. On the inside, the Dzire offers a good amount of space for both row passengers, further boosting its appeal as a sedan.

Most fuel-efficient sedan in its segment

Like every other Maruti Suzuki model, the Dzire is also the most fuel-efficient car in its segment. The Dzire's new 1.2-litre Z-series petrol engine offers a claimed mileage of 24.79kmpl with the manual and 25.71kmpl with the AMT. Furthermore, the Dzire is also available with a factory-fitted CNG option, offering a claimed mileage of 33.73kmpkg.

Feature packed

The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire also comes packed with features, and to our surprise, also packs a few segment-first ones. Its key features include LED headlights with DRLs, LED fog lights, 15-inch machined alloy wheels, 360-degree parking cameras, cruise control, electric sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system, 6 airbags, electronic stability program, 9.0-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and more.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire cons

Smallest boot, no 60:40 split rear seats

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire offers the smallest boot in its segment, holding a capacity of 382 litres. Rival sedans like the Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor, and Hyundai Aura, all offer luggage carrying capacity north of 400 litres. The Dzire doesn’t offer 60:40 split seats for the second row either, further taking a toll on the car's overall practicality.

No proper automatic

Maruti Suzuki offers the Dzire with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). While the AMTs found in Maruti Suzuki cars are among the better ones in the market, they can not come close to the smoothness and ease-of-use of a proper automatic transmission, like the CVT found in the Honda Amaze. Sure, the Amaze CVT carries a steep premium, but is justified owing to its driving experience, which is somewhat expected from a compact sedan.

A little short on features

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Yes, we know that we called the new Dzire feature-packed just a while ago. However, it still misses on certain features, some of which are essential at the price it’s being offered at. These features include front armrest, auto-dimming inside-rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, and advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). Furthermore, the premium features that are offered in the Dzire are restricted to the top-end variants only, making the low and mid variants feel bare-bone.
