Mahindra XUV 3XO pros & cons — The underdog?
- 1Only sub-compact SUV in India to get Level-2 ADAS
- 2No factory-fitted CNG variants on offer
- 3Most powerful turbo-petrol engine in the segment
The sub-compact SUV segment is filled with options, and many of them are sorted packages like the Kia Sonet and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. There’s the Mahindra XUV 3XO too, which does handsome numbers on the sales charts, averaging at over 9,000 units a month. But it doesn’t seem to be discussed much. Let’s talk about the 3XO then. Here are the top Mahindra XUV 3XO pros & cons.
Mahindra XUV 3XO pros
Spacious cabin
Given the squeezed dimensions of such cars to make them fit under the 4 metre mark, most cars tend to lose a lot of space inside the cabin. The XUV 3XO emerges superior to all its rivals in this aspect with a handsome amount of space inside the cabin. Thanks to the fact that the 3XO has the widest cabin in its class, there’s plenty of room in the second row, and the white upholstery coupled with a well-sized greenhouse come together to give the occupants a sense of ample space.
Powerful engines
The XUV 3XO gets three engine options — a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with direct injection, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The TGDi unit is the most powerful in its class, with a maximum power output of 131 PS. Also, the 1.5-litre diesel motor is the best-in-class when it comes to peak torque numbers, standing at 300Nm.

Safety
The Mahindra XUV 3XO is the only sub-compact SUV in India to get a Level-2 ADAS suite with functionalities such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, high beam assist, and more. Moreover, the XUV 3XO has secured a 5-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP crash test.
Mahindra XUV 3XO cons
Polarising design
The XUV 3XO has, perhaps, the most polarising styling in its segment, with a very aggressive front end and a cleaner rear end. Design being subjective in general, that of the XUV 3XO is definitely one that might not be to everyone’s liking. Personally, I’m okay with its styling.
No CNG option
While there are three engine options available on the XUV 3XO, and a ton of total powertrain combinations, there’s no option for a factory-fitted CNG kit, which might drive prospective buyers away to other options in the segment like the Maruti Brezza or the Tata Nexon, which by the way, gets India’s first turbo-petrol engine with CNG in the passenger vehicle category.

Pricey automatic options
The price difference between automatic and manual options of the same variant is wider in case of the XUV 3XO when compared to other cars in the same segment. Also, there’s no proper diesel automatic option, and the only variant that gets one comes with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
