The Swift has now stepped into its 4th-generation, which also happens to be the biggest change the Swift has seen, thanks to an all-new petrol engine. In this article, we shed light on the Maruti Suzuki Swift pros and cons to understand where India’s favourite hatchback stands today.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Pros
Most Fuel Efficient In Its Class
The Maruti Suzuki Swift continues to be the most fuel efficient hatchback in its class. The new 1.2-litre Z-Series engine offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.75kmpl with the AMT and 24.8kmpl with the manual.
Standard Safety Features
For its price, the Swift offers a slew of safety features like 6 airbags, electronic stability program, hill-start assist, rear defogger and more, that too as standard across all variants.

Good Set Of Features
The new Swift also offers all the necessary features one would expect from this class. These features include a 9.0-inch infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charger, LED projector headlights and DRLs, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start/stop and more.
Good Value In Pre-Owned Market
Being one of the best-selling Maruti Suzuki models in India, the Swift holds its value in the second-hand market really well. In case you want to sell your old Swift, it gets much better value over its arch rivals.

Dependable Service Network
The new Swift also benefits from Maruti Suzuki’s dependable service network, which also happens to be the largest among all the carmakers currently present in the Indian automotive market.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Cons
Unrefined 3-Cylinder Engine
While the new 3-cylinder engine does wonders in terms of fuel efficiency, it fails to keep up with the refinement of its 4-cylinder engine rivals. The start up thrums the cabin and the engine also exhibits a lot of sound when pushing hard.
Lack Of Features
The base models of the Swift come loaded with good safety features, however, the mid and higher variants lack features at their respective price points. These features include front and rear armrests, electric sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system etc.

No CNG Option
The new Swift offers a sole 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. While diesel engines have gone extinct in this space, the Swift also lacks the option of a CNG powertrain, which is offered by its arch rivals like the Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago.
No Turbo Petrol Option
Coming back to the engine, the power output of the new engine has gone down over the older 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit. Maruti Suzuki also does not offer the option of a turbo petrol engine, making the hot-hatch image of the Swift a hard sell.
