Back in 2022, Mahindra launched the latest generation of its most popular SUV i.e. the Scorpio, with a revised name of ‘Scorpio N’. The new Scorpio N has a massive appeal in the Indian market due to its sheer road presence and reliable mechanicals. If you’re also planning to buy the Scorpio N, here are the top Mahindra Scorpio N pros and cons you must check out.

Road Presence & Mass Appeal

The sheer size of Scorpio N is definitely its strongest buying point. People love the looks of the Scorpio N and the size of this SUV. Its overall tall-boy design with muscular body lines, all add to the SUV appeal on the road. With a length of 4.6m and a width of nearly 2 meters, the Scorpio N is for sure the ‘Big Daddy’ of most SUVs in India. Not to mention that Mahindra has also added a sophisticated appeal to it via chrome garnishing and subtle dual-tone alloy wheels.

Superb Suspension & Ride Quality

With the Scorpio N, Mahindra introduced a brand-new suspension setup. Called the ‘Pentalink WATT’s linkage’, this new setup boasts complex construction and multiple attachment points. The benefit? Sofa-like comfort on the road due to its ability to ease up any bad road. Mahindra SUVs were never known for their suspensions or ride quality, but the Scorpio N will leave a footprint of comfort on your mind once you sit inside it.

Powerful & Torquey Engine Options

Another strong point of the Scorpio N is the engine options on offer. The Scorpio N gets two engine options - a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Both of these engines produce the highest peak power & torque figures in their category. Moreover, the AISIN-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox is a boon to use for added convenience. In case you’re an enthusiastic driver, the 6-speed manual gearbox offers a better sense of manual control. Both of these engines offer a reliable and quick performance. The diesel, specifically, has loads of low-end torque and it can pull the SUV without any hiccups.

5-Star Safety

After the XUV700, the Scorpio N is the second full-size SUV by Mahindra that offers an extremely safe cabin for the occupants. The Scorpio N not only managed to score a perfect 5-star GNCAP crash test rating but also boasts a long list of features to keep the occupants safe in case of a crash. The Mahindra Scorpio N safety features include 6 airbags, ESC, hill-hold assist, hill-descent assist, roll-over mitigation assist, frontal & rear cameras, and more. These, along with the tank-like build quality, makes the Scorpio N a safe choice for buyers.

Feature-Loaded Cabin

Known to equip its products with segment-best features, Mahindra has ensured that the same is followed on the Scorpio N. It has a feature-loaded cabin, especially on the Z8 trims. The newly added Z8 Select variant is one of the best value-for-money Mahindra Scorpio variants and comes loaded with nearly everything available on the top-spec Z8 L. Some of the top features of the Scorpio N include LED projector headlights, LED taillights, LED foglights, an electric sunroof, leather upholstery, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Adrenox Connect, and a 12-speaker Sony music system.

2024 Mahindra Scorpio Cons

Lack of Boot Space

The Scorpio N has a humongous cabin but it still lacks a proper boot space for 6 passengers. With its third row up, the limited boot space feels like a serious issue if you’ve to travel with full passengers for a long trip. However, fold the third-row down and the Scorpio can easily gulp down loads of luggage. It is only when the third row is occupied, that the boot space feels insufficient.

Fewer Utility Spaces

Another issue with the Scorpio N related to space management is the lack of utility spaces. While the SUV feels rich & premium, it has fewer spaces to use than expected. For example, the door pockets aren’t deep and you can’t store bigger stuff. Moreover, the door pads can hardly fit a 1-litre bottle for the occupants, which feels inadequate. Similarly, the rear passengers do not get a dedicated space to put their belongings like phones while charging.

Hard Seat Cushioning

If you’re opting for the top-spec variants with leather seats, be prepared for a hard cushioning feel. The front seats do not feel inadequate at all but the second-row seats have very hard cushioning. Also, the second-row (without captain seats), gets less under-thigh support for taller passengers. This hard cushioning feel is evident when travelling for longer durations.

Fuel Guzzler Petrol Engine

The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine on the Scorpio N is sourced from the XUV700. This 200bhp monster of an engine has a terrible fuel economy. While the NVH levels and power delivery feel superb, it hardly crosses the 15 kmpl mark on the highway, even if driven with a feather-light foot. Inside the city, seeing single-digit fuel economy figures is not a rare sight for most owners.
