2024 Kia Sonet Pros And Cons — Pocket Rocket?
- 1Available with three engine and five gearbox options
- 2Has a striking design and feature-loaded cabin
- 3Lacks space and comfort at the rear
The Kia Sonet isn’t many things. But it definitely isn’t boring either. Available in a gazillion configurations, with multiple options for the engine, transmission, interior themes and variants, there’s practically a Kia Sonet that will tick all your boxes if you’re on the lookout for a sub-compact ‘SUV’. Here are some of the main 2024 Kia Sonet pros and cons you must not miss.
2024 Kia Sonet Pros
Premium Interior
The cabin of the Sonet is a pleasant place to be in. There are premium materials all around, on the gear lever, the steering wheel and the dashboard. All these surfaces feel nice to touch and hold. The interior is well-designed and nothing feels subpar on the quality front. Notably, there are five (!) interior themes to choose from.
Striking Design
Kia Sonet is the best-looking car in its segment, owing to the aggressive styling, both on the interior as well as the exterior. The tiger nose grille on the front makes it look ready to prowl, and features like the styled air-con vents make the Sonet look appealing and youthful. While the rear might still be polarising, it does look better than the one on the pre-facelift models.

Comfortable City Commuter
Owing to a compliant suspension, the Kia Sonet feels comfortable going over bad roads at lower speeds. You wouldn’t feel jerks as much and it will navigate over bad roads and speed bumps without shedding a swear. At higher speeds though, the dynamics could have been better as it tends to feel unstable and even the small undulations become noticeable.
2024 Kia Sonet Cons
Lack of Rear Space & Comfort
You won’t be as jolly sitting at the rear as there isn’t enough space there, especially if there are two more people sharing the bench with you. The rear seats aren’t that comfortable either. The rear armrest with cup holders does help making the experience a bit better nonetheless.
No CNG Option
Even with multiple powertrain options, the lack of a factory-fitted CNG kit makes a big chunk of prospective buyers shift to other cars like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The addition of a CNG option is likely to make the Sonet appeal to many more buyers, who are primarily looking for a car with an SUV-like stance but one which is light on the pocket too.

Lethargic Petrol Engine
There is adequate power and torque on the turbo-petrol and diesel variants of the 2024 Kia Sonet. But, the naturally-aspirated petrol engine lacks torque, and competitors like the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO offer much more torquey engines at a similar price.
