Outline

It’s not unheard of that people are comfortable paying outrageous amounts of money for a big Toyota, case in point the Fortuner. But the Toyota Vellfire justifies the price that it demands to the last rupee. With a waiting period extending to more than half a year, Toyota has been able to find a handsome number of buyers for its MPV that costs over a crore. Here’s a story explaining why the Toyota Vellfire has been such a hit, along with listing its current waiting period.

Toyota Vellfire waiting period

Let’s just first sort out the matter that I have been asked to cover in this story. The current Toyota Vellfire waiting period is approximately 7 months, as per Toyota India’s official website. While the Vellfire comes as a CBU to India and would of course take time to be shipped, it won’t be unjustified to factor in the handsome demand for the MPV that has resulted in such long waiting periods. Back to the fun bit now — what makes the Toyota Vellfire so sought after?

Super comfortable commuter

The Vellfire is nothing short of a living room on wheels, especially if you’re the one who gets to sit on one of the middle row seats, which is the place to be in this MPV. These are huge captain seats that feature a massaging function, ventilation, arm rests with storage, memory function for the seat adjustment settings(which are of course electrically-controlled), extendable leg cushions, retractable tables and cup holders. Even the third-row seats offer loads of space and won’t make you feel shortchanged, unlike most MPVs and SUVs today, and they are adjustable too!

Lack of competition

Another reason for the popularity of the Vellfire is the lack of competition in the market. The Kia Carnival was not on sale for a good part of last year and most part of this year as well, though it is making a comeback earlier next month. The Lexus LM350h costs almost twice the money, and its deliveries just began sometime back. There isn’t really a more comfortable 6/7 seater in the Indian market apart from the LM350h today.

Expensive luxury sedans

An S-Class starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.77 crore today, and a 7-Series even commands a few more lakhs than the S-Class. While the Audi A8L does come a bit cheaper, with a starting price of Rs 1.34 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Vellfire Hi undercuts the price by around Rs 12 lakh, while offering more seating capacity and comfort. The Toyota Vellfire VIP Executive Lounge variant costs Rs 1.33 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). Let’s not even get to the Maybachs and other ultra-luxury sedans that demand outrageous sums of money.

Powerful and efficient drivetrain

The Toyota Vellfire is powered by a petrol-hybrid powertrain rather than a diesel engine. This consists of a 2.5-litre petrol engine and a couple of permanent synchronous electric motors, one on each axle, which generate a combined output of 200PS of power. Toyota hasn’t revealed the combined torque figures, though the engine alone produces a peak torque of 240Nm. Paired to a CVT, this hybrid powertrain ensures optimum fuel efficiency along with providing a smooth ride and performance on demand.

Practicality and safety

The Toyota Vellfire easily takes over the above cars in terms of practicality. It can easily not just accommodate but provide a comfortable commuting experience to 7 people. You can take the MPV on long trips with your friends and family. At the end of the day, it is a Toyota and thus, there’s no question about reliability. Moreover, it’s safe due to the robust body shell and modern safety features that it packs in. Does this sound reasonable enough?
