2024 Hyundai Alcazar facelift NFC digital key explained
- 1Uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology
- 2Eliminates the need to carry a physical key
- 3Users can lock/unlock their car and start the engine via the Digital Key
The new Hyundai Alcazar features a lot of technological enhancements as compared to the outgoing model. While you must have heard about most of them elsewhere such as ADAS and electric boss mode, one feature that might seem alien to most is the new NFC-based Digital Key? In this article, we explain to you what the Hyundai NFC Digital Key is and how it works.
Hyundai Digital Key
Hyundai’s Digital Key uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that enables users to lock, unlock and start the engine of their car through their smartphone or smartwatch, eliminating the need of a physical key. The Alcazar is the first Hyundai car in India to debut this technology.

How to use the Hyundai NFC Digital Key
It’s quite simple. You have to setup the Hyundai Digital Key in your smartphone or your smartwatch through the BlueLink application and you are good to go. The next time you’re adjacent to your Hyundai Alcazar, just tap your smartphone or smartwatch against the sensor that’s placed on the door handle and the car unlocks itself. To start the engine, you have to place your device on the wireless charging pad and then press the start/stop button. In addition to this, since Hyundai uses NFC-based authentication, it doesn't even require a network connection, which is first in the segment and far more reliable than the app-based digital key systems.
How to transfer Hyundai Digital Key
The Digital Key technology lets you select one primary user and three secondary users can be further added to the network, so that your family members or friends can also use this feature. A total of seven devices can be connected among these four users.

Hyundai Digital Key 2
While the Hyundai Alcazar debuts the Digital Key technology in India, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N comes with Digital Key 2 in European markets. This uses Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology in addition to the NFC tech that allows you to lock/unlock your car from a distance of up to 1.5 metres approximately, which further enhances convenience by not needing you to even tap your device on the door handle. Is the added convenience worth the money spent on developing and implementing this new tech feature? We’ll leave that to you to answer. It is indeed fascinating, nonetheless.
