The Golf GTI will be brought to India via the CBU (completely built unit) route and will be positioned as a halo model. While this will be the first time the Golf GTI is introduced in India, the VW Polo GTI has been on sale since 2016. However, Volkswagen has stopped producing the Polo GTI in India, although it is still available internationally.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI launch in India is likely to take place in the second half of 2025, expected around August. It will be imported via the homologation-free route, allowing manufacturers to bring in up to 2,500 completely built units (CBUs) or semi-knocked down units (SKDs) in India, without needing to go through the certification process.

The updated Volkswagen Golf GTI hatchback features a sporty design, with sharply positioned Matrix LED headlights at the front. The VW logo is centrally placed, while the GTI logo is positioned closer to the headlamp. The front face gives off a signature look, with wide honeycomb mesh air vents on the lower bumper. It also has a sleek, sloping shoulder line. At the rear, you'll find twin tailpipes, a roof spoiler, and stylish taillamps. The car runs on 18-inch Richmond diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI features the familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, with a power bump of 19PS, bringing the total output to 269PS and 370Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and comes in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration. The Golf GTI has an electronically limited top speed of 250kph and can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 5.9 seconds.
