Upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser EV revealed globally — Everything you need to know
- 1To get the same powertrain options as the Maruti e Vitara
- 2Gets an identical dashboard layout too
- 3To be launched in India after the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
Just around a month back, Suzuki unveiled the production-spec version of its first electric car in the world — Suzuki e Vitara. Toyota Motor Corporation has now taken the wraps off its version of the e Vitara, which it has decided to call the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is basically the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara in Toyota clothing. It is part of the global Toyota Suzuki partnership that has also resulted in products like the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Glanza being sold in India. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is based on the new Heartect-e platform that has jointly been developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu.
Urban Cruiser EV design and dimensions
The Urban Cruiser EV has the exact same silhouette as the e Vitara, but is longer by 10mm and taller by 5mm. It gets a connected light bar at the rear and the front lamps are connected by a thick strip of chrome. Toyota’s eVX also gets different bumpers to not make it look identical to its counterpart from Suzuki.
Parameters | Urban Cruiser EV dimensions |
Length | 4,285mm |
Width | 1,800mm |
Height | 1,640mm |
Wheelbase | 2,700mm |
Tyre size | 18-inches 19-inches |

Battery and motor specs
The battery and motor combinations that will be offered are exactly the same as ones that will be there on the Maruti e Vitara. The power and torque outputs are identical too. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV range hasn’t been disclosed yet. There’s not much left to talk about here, then.
Powertrain | Option A | Option B | Option C |
Battery size | 49kWh | 61kWh | 61kWh |
Configuration | FWD | FWD | 4WD |
Power output | 144PS | 174PS | 184PS |
Peak torque | 189Nm | 189Nm | 300Nm |
Interior and features
Not much has changed on the interior too, with an identical dashboard layout and elements, albeit with Toyota badging such as the one on the steering wheel. This is a good thing though, as the interior of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is rather good, at least that’s how we perceive it from the pictures; and the interior seen on other Toyota cars in India isn’t much better either. Noticeable and expected features include independently sliding rear seats, an ADAS suite, 360-degree cameras, a 10.25-inch digital display for the driver, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, JBL audio system, and a fixed (yay!) sunroof.

Upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser EV India launch details
While Toyota hasn’t yet disclosed any information about the Urban Cruiser EV India launch, we expect it to be here not very late after the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara launch that is expected to happen by mid-2025. Production of both these EVs will take place at the Suzuki plant in Gujarat.
