The Suzuki Swift Sport never made its way to India, and it remained one of the most asked for models until there were reports that the Japanese carmaker might pull the plug on the car altogether to make way for electrification. Recent reports, however, suggest that there is a fourth generation Suzuki Swift Sport under development, and it is expected to feature a petrol-hybrid setup. Here are more details about the upcoming Suzuki Swift Sport.

Suzuki Swift Sport

The Swift Sport is, as the name suggests, a sportier version of the Maruti Swift, which has been one of the most popular cars in India of all times. While the Swift Sport has been spotted in India on several occasions, it was never launched in the country. Suzuki announced the end of the third generation Suzuki Swift Sport, with a celebratory final edition that is exclusive to Japan, which you can read about here.

New Suzuki Swift Sport hybrid

Reports suggest that the carmaker is undertaking development on a new Swift Sport based on the fourth generation model, which made its debut in India last year. The new Swift Sport is rumoured to continue with the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol Boosterjet engine, which will be assisted by a 48-volt mild hybrid setup. The current generation has output figures of 142PS and 230Nm, and the hybrid setup is said to add up to 14PS of additional power. The fourth gen Swift Sport is also likely to retain both its transmission options — a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor.

New Suzuki Swift Sport India launch?

As has been the case with all previous generations of the Swift Sport, the upcoming model is also unlikely to be launched here. But we can’t really rule out the possibility entirely. The global launch of the hot-hatch is expected to take place sometime in 2026.

Upcoming electric Maruti cars in India
