Upcoming Kia Carens EV spotted with front charging port — India launch details!

Kia has been actively testing the upcoming Carens EV—the electric avatar of its hot-selling Carens MPV—in India and abroad, with new images popping up every other day. A fresh spy image of the upcoming Kia Carens EV reveals its front mounted charging port, which—if you haven’t guessed already—takes inspiration from the Hyundai Creta Electric. Kia Carens EV to get a front-mounted charging port

While some EVs resort to the standard side mounted charging port, especially the ones that are direct ICE platform conversions. However, we have seen new EVs like the Tata Punch, Tata Curvv and the recently launched Hyundai Creta Electric that place the charging port on the front. The latest EV to join this trend is the new Carens EV, as the new spy shot reveals its front-mounted charging port in action. Apart from the design aspect, it has a function of easy access as the car can be driven facing the charging point and requires lesser effort to plug in compared to cars with side mounted charging ports.

Upcoming Kia Carens EV design details

Though heavily covered with camouflage, the spied image also revealed more details about the design of the 2025 Kia Carens EV. In addition to the front-mounted charging port, the image also revealed the aero-styled alloy wheels of the Carens EV, which take direct inspiration from the larger Kia EV models like the EV9. Other details about the upcoming Kia Carens electric include a new front fascia with split LED headlights and connected light bar at the front and rear. Owing to its electric underpinnings, the Carens EV is likely to boast an enclosed front grille design with the active aero flaps positioned below on the bumper.

Kia Carens EV expected powertrain details

Reports suggest that the upcoming Kia Carens EV will share its underpinnings like battery and motor with the Hyundai Creta Electric. The newly launched Hyundai Creta Electric comes with two battery pack options—42kWh and 51.4kWh—and a single motor option that comes in two states of tune—135PS and 171PS. We expect the Kia Carens EV powertrain to match the battery and motor specifications of the Creta Electric, albeit with slight modifications thanks to the different bodystyle and use case.

2025 Kia Carens EV launch timeline

If reports are to be believed, Kia India will launch the Carens EV in June 2025. The Carens EV will fall in the C-segment space and rival the BYD eMax 7, which currently is the only 7-seater electric MPV on sale in the country. Before the Kia Carens EV launch, we will get to witness the launch of the Kia Carens facelift, which is said to take place in April 2025.
