Outline

The BYD e6, India’s first electric MPV, was introduced in November 2021. However, this model is no longer listed on the official website. Instead, the spotlight is now on the BYD eMAX 7, its successor. The excitement around this new model has grown, especially with recent sightings of it on Indian roads, completely undisguised. If you're eager to learn more, here's a roundup of what we know so far about this exciting new launch, highlighting the key features and updates.

Drawing design inspiration from the global model

A recent spy shot gave us a good glimpse of the BYD eMAX 7's rear and side view, though the front wasn’t as clearly visible. This model, which will replace the e6, seems to follow a fresh design style. From what we can see, the eMAX 7 looks quite similar to the BYD M6, which is already available in Hong Kong. Some of the noticeable features include a connected taillight, a smooth and sleek MPV shape, a shark-fin antenna, and a rear roof spoiler. Even the alloy wheels seem to match those of the M6. As for the front, while it wasn't fully revealed, it’s expected to feature sharp headlights, much like the global model.

Options for 6-seater and 7-seater configurations

The BYD eMax 7 will feature a large, long body with a roomy interior, offering plenty of space. It will be available in both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations, making it flexible for different needs. Unlike the BYD e6 MPV, which only comes as a 5-seater, this new model gives buyers more options. It's designed to work well for both business purposes and family road trips, with enough room to comfortably fit everyone.

A wide array of features & inclusion of ADAS

When it comes to features, you’ll find a really wide and impressive variety. The vehicle is expected to come with a 12.8-inch intelligent rotating touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, one-touch up-and-down power windows for all four doors with an anti-pinch feature, a PM2.5 air filter to improve air quality, keyless entry and start, a voice assistant, ventilated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, and many more exciting additions.

On the safety side, there’s also an impressive set of features, including 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, an electronic parking brake, traction control, and EBD. It will also have a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold control, and more. Plus, ADAS will be available, such as emergency lane-keeping assist, intelligent cruise control, predictive collision warning, rear collision warning, blind spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert, among others.

Under the hood

BYD M9

When the BYD e6 was first introduced, it came with a 71.7 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate battery that offered a driving range of about 520 km based on the WLTP cycle. The same battery size will be available in the new BYD eMAX 7. However, there are also expectations for a smaller battery option of 55.4 kWh, which is said to provide a range of around 420 km.

Launch date, pricing expectation, & rivals

Although the exact launch date hasn't been confirmed yet, it's expected that the BYD eMAX 7 will be released in the first week of October. In terms of pricing, when the BYD e6 Electric MPV was introduced, it had a starting price of Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom). For the BYD eMAX 7, the price is expected to begin around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). While the eMAX 7 doesn’t have direct competitors in the electric MPV category, it will likely face off against popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova Hycross, and similar vehicles in the broader MPV segment.
