We get quite a few Toyota cars in India today, from the Camry to the Vellfire, and even the famed Land Cruiser 300. But one SUV that we miss is the Land Cruiser Prado, which used to be sold in India long back. Recent reports suggest that the Prado might make a comeback in 2025. Upcoming Land Cruiser Prado

The Land Cruiser Prado is a marginally smaller and more affordable version of the Land Cruiser that is known for its reliability and all-terrain capability. It also gets smaller engines that make it less expensive than the LC. The Prado was discontinued by Toyota from the Indian market back in 2020.

Land Cruiser Prado India launch timeline

Recent media reports suggest that the new generation of the Land Cruiser Prado is being considered for a prospective launch in India by the second half of next year. Though Toyota has not revealed much details about the same, the Prado will likely come to our shores as a CBU.

Land Cruiser Prado engine options

Globally, the Prado comes with multiple engine options including turbo-petrols, diesels, and hybrids. The India-spec Land Cruiser Prado is likely to be equipped with the 2.8-litre diesel engine that also powers the Toyota Fortuner. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and will be offered with a proper 4WD system. We might also see it being paired with a 48 Volt mild-hybrid system. Some of the off-road tech that comes with it includes downhill-assist control, Crawl feature, electronically-lockable rear and centre differentials, multiple drive modes, a disconnecting front anti-roll bar, and more.

Prado interior, tech, and features

The Prado globally comes with the options for a 5-seater or a 7-seater configuration. It gets a bunch of physical controls for basic functions, along with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a digital driver’s display. The seats are finished in leather and there’s a ton of off-road technology packed into the Prado, following the footsteps of its elder sibling.
